CCR Draft #4

For my magazine i mainly used the program Microsoft Publisher. I used this software to layout my magazine pages and the pictures that i planned to use. I used the internet to research different types of magazines. That helped me learn about different magazines and even what they do to distribute and advertise their magazine. Also I used a cannon camera to take all my photos that i put in my magazine.

CCR Draft #3

During this project i learned how to manage my time to get the expected amount of work done by its specific due date. Also I learned more about photography, for the photos Matthew set up  studio lighting and when i took the pictures i also had to press another button at the same time so that the studio lighting would work. I learned how to make a flat plan, i have never done that before and that helped me plan out what was going to be on the different pages and how i would lay out my whole magazine.

CCR Draft #2

My magazine engages with audiences by different social media accounts. I chose to have an Instagram account because Instagram is really popular among most people especially teens. I also have a Twitter page so that i reach older people. On my social media sites i will give sneak peeks to the future issue and include some behind the scenes of making the magazine. So i can lure people in and get them excited for the new issues that will be coming out. On my social media accounts in the description i will include a link to my website. When a new issue of my magazine comes out i will announce it on my accounts and if people want to get the new issue they will have to subscribe then the magazine will be sent to their address. Also subscribers will be able to access the magazine on my app and website. That's how i will engage with audiences and how my magazine will be distributed.

CCR Draft #1

On my cover i used bold capital words because that's what i noticed in the different magazines i researched. I decided to not have words on my cover just so i could focus my readers focus on the photo since this is a photography magazine. I had a darker picture so that my title would pop more and it would draw in readers. In the picture i had the person pose around studio lighting since he had the main article and in the main article he talked about studio lighting. I chose a wide shot so that i could show as much as i could because it's important to not only show the person but also the equipment. Then in the table of contents i used different pictures so it would have variety. For the font i used a different font as i did on the cover page. My layout for my table of contents is conventional for the magazines i researched they all had similar layouts. Then for the first page of my article i used a big photo at the bottom, i took the photo with just regular lighting. For my arti...

With my new magazine i decided to not keep the extra wording on the cover page, also i changed the name of my magazine. I made the font for my new title bolder so it's more eye catching. For the table of contents i took new pictures downtown and replaced the other pictures. In my two page article i changed the font and changed the format of my second page. Also on the second page i added a social media tag so that people know that they can follow us on our social media accounts. Those are the major changes i did for my third quarter submission.

Distribution Plan

When my magazine comes out with a new issue i will distribute them via mail. When people subscribe to my magazine they will pick if they want a just a physical copy or a electronic copy, which will be featured on my app. For people who want both a physical and an electronic copy that will be an option as well. Also if a subscriber wants to switch from an electronic copy to a physical copy that can also be possible. The subscribers would just need to update what they prefer from electronic to physical. For people who don't have a smart phone or a tablet my magazine will also be on my website just so it's accessible to everyone.

Distribution

Outdoor Photography also has an app for phones and tablets. Outdoor has an app for the computer too. This magazine has a lot of ways to digitally distribute their magazines to subscribers. Like I've said in the previous post i would like to have an app along with my website. I think having apps is a very smart idea. This way subscribers can read the latest issue anytime they want to.

Distribution

National Geography magazine has an app for people who want to read the magazine digitally. Once the person is on their app they can sign into their account then they can read different issues. If subscribers don't have a phone or tablet then they can just access the issues on their website, once they sign into their account. I would like to have a app like national geography does because most people today have phones and tablets and having a app would be easier for people to access my magazine.

Distribution

There are many different steps to distributing a magazine. After you plan and prepare your magazine a manuscript of your magazine is sent to an editor. After the editor reads it with the writer input the magazine manuscript will either be accepted for turned away. If the manuscript is accepted then it will enter the copy editing phase. Which means every fact in the magazine will be checked to make sure it is accurate. After that during production and distribution the production manager will start mapping out the magazine, what information goes on what pages etc. A printer will not run without the final approval from the publisher. After the pages are printed and dried they will be trimmed and bound and ready for distribution. A circulation director is responsible for getting the magazines to the people. Also these people keep a record of subscribers and their subscription status. Lastly the circulation team have to know and meet the postal requirements in order to send the magazine to ...

Marketing Plan

Image
Three ways i will be advertising my magazine will be on social media, at sponsored events and in other magazines. On social media I will have a account and also i will pay to have ads on so more people will be drawn to my magazine. On my account i will advertise for all of my magazines and if one month i have a famous photographer i will advertise more because many people will recognize them and be more drawn in to get the issue. Also i will advertise at local photography shows, that is another way to get more people to subscribe to my magazine. One last way i will be advertising is by putting tear outs in my magazine, i saw this in some of the magazines i looked at and i thought it's a very good idea. So if the person likes the issue they will fill out the tear out and send it to get more issues.

Target Audience - Photoworks

Photoworks: On their website there is a popup ad to join their mailing list. They also showcase their issues so that people can click on them and see the type of photography they use. They also advertise their Instagram page, also people can listen to panel. They distribute their magazine every autumn so once a year. Their magazine is rather large and it showcases many different photographers, from well know people to people just getting started in the business.

Target Audience- Better Photography

Better Photography: when i clicked on the website there were ads about getting the new issue. Also there were details about how much it costs to subscribe to the magazine company. There is a difference in prices for online readers and paper readers. I thought that was interesting. Their target audience and my target are the same because they are both focus on photography. On their website they also give a preview of their issue so if the reader likes the portion they read they will be more likely to subscribe to the magazine company. When people subscribe to their magazine they will get updates on new issues coming up and things like that.

Target Audience-National Geographic

The target audience for my magazine are professional photographers and/or people aspiring to be a photographer. The gender could be male or female because photography is a gender neutral profession. The magazine would mainly focus on photographers in college and out of college looking for their passion. For my magazine i would advertise digitally like on Instagram and different social media sights. National Geographic: They advertise by having social media accounts, such as Twitter and Instagram. Also when you go on their website they advertise their newest issue. Another way they advertise is when you get your issue there are papers inside about how to order the next issue. Probably when you sign up they will send emails that advertise new issues and things like that.

Revisions

Over the weekend i will taking photos downtown. I have some locations in mind. On Friday and Saturday i will be taking the photos then on Sunday and Monday i will editing the photos and fit them on the table of contents. Also i will probably be taking photos of the Ringling Bridge. Also during this week i will fixing the fonts and layout of my article pages.

Feedback

Some of the feedback i got was that i should vary my photos. To fix that this week i will schedule another photo shoot so that i can get some more variety photos. Some good feedback i got was that i used a good font. While i do the revisions of my magazine i will have to come up with a new name because Polaroid could be copyrighted and i do not want that. I did get a lot of good feedback about the photos i took. As i revise my magazine i will keep all of the feedback i got in mind to make the best photography magazine i can make. Another revision i will make is when i edit my photos to fit the pages i won't stretch them out so much.

Use of Conventions

I chose it put my photos for my main article on the bottom so i could give myself more room to write information about questions i asked Matthew. On the table of contents i decided to put more than one picture on the page because i interviewed more than one person and if i developed more of my magazine they would have articles of their own. I wanted to experiment with different fonts so i found different fonts for my table of contents and my main article. For the pictures for my main article i took one picture with plain lighting then another picture with studio lighting. Since my article was about studio lighting and i wanted to show people the difference between regular lighting and studio lighting. I put the page numbers on the bottom of the pages because that's what i saw in the magazine's i researched and i thought it was a good idea. Since i put the page numbers on top of the photos for the main article i made the font for the numbers a little bigger and changed the color...
